Why Food Safety?
Canadian hog producers are recognized in Canada and around the world for producing top-quality pork.
On-farm programs relating to food safety were developed in response to consumers’ interest in having assurances about the way pork is produced. The PigSAFE program provides a mechanism for producers to demonstrate their implementation of sound production practices that promote safe food production.
The PigSAFE Program implemented on-farm is based on the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) models to ensure its technical soundness.
Canadian Food Inspection Agency Recognition
The Canadian federal government, through the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), has established a system to formally recognize on-farm food safety programs, to ensure they are technically sound and delivered appropriately. The PigSAFE Program has received its Letter of Completion from CFIA, which means the technical content of our program has been reviewed by government experts and has been found to be sound.
