The animal care program, PigCARE, demonstrates producers’ dedication to the welfare and well-being of their animals. The PigCARE Program reflects the 2014 Code of practice for the care and handling of pigs’ requirements.
The Code of Practice
The Code of Practice is a product of the National Farm Animal Care Council and the Code Development Committee, comprising representatives from the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies, pig producers, scientists, transporters, processors, veterinarians and government. The Canadian Code of Practice marks a significant advancement for the industry, acknowledging the constructive engagement of a diverse array of stakeholders in addressing pig welfare in Canada.
